Diamond Gleam

Is your bath tired, dull, scratched or chipped? Is it not smooth and shiny like a new bath?

Maybe you need bath re enamelling to make it like new again!

We have been re enamelling baths since 1985.

Bath Re Enamelling can restore any bath to new again !

Over years of abrasive cleaners, bleach and other cleaning agents the bath has probably become dull. Its also just wear and tear over years of use, kids toys rubbing against the bath and possible scratching the bottom, giving the dog a wash or bath mats which eroded the bottom of the bath. Or limescale from a dripping tap has worn away and eroded the bath over time.

There are many reasons the bath has aged. And we can bring it back to life with our full bath resurfacing procedure

Bath re enamelling is the process by which we restore and recondition the original surface of the bath, lay an intermediate surface then spray on 3 to 4 new enamel coatings so you have a bath that looks brand new but is also long lasting and durable!

We can resurface cast iron baths, acrylic/plastic baths and steel baths.

We take care to ensure everything is dust sheeted and masked so there is no mess in your bathroom and home.

To re enamel a bath tub you have to be trained on spraying on the enamel with a spray gun. We have found spraying on the new enamel surface gives you by far the best finish possible. Using a brush or a cup isn’t going to give the best finish.

Bath Reenamelling and Bath Resurfacing full step by step procedure:

Bath Enamelling procedure takes 5-8 hours from when we arrive

  • Arrive and dust sheet the floor, toilet, sink, heaters and all large surface areas.
  • We thoroughly clean the bath with specific cleaners and remove any rotten silicone around the bath.
  • We repair any damage such as chips in the bath, scratches , limescale, worn away enamel from hard water, if there are holes or damage at the bottom of the bath, we repair that also.
  • We do any heavy sanding if its necessary depending on the surface.
  • We cover the tiles, walls, taps, waste and overflow with masking to prevent spray getting on these.
  • We use a special cleaning solvent to get rid of any grease, dirt, etc.
  • We put on the first bonding agent or adhesion promoter to the bath. We let that dry.
  • Then we spray on the second bonding agent with a hot air gun. Unlike other bath re enamelling companies we use two bonding agents so the enamel surface we spray on has a very strong hold to the original surface.
  • Now we spray the bath or shower tray with three to four coats of enamel with our hot air spray gun.
  • We use an infrared low bake system to cure the new enamel and remove the masking. We the do any detailed finishing touches, polishing etc to make sure its perfect and apply a new bead of sealant so it is ready for use.

What is the cost of bath resurfacing a bath?

Bath resurfacing in London costs anywhere between £425-700 pounds to actually do the job properly

There are various factors that affect the cost of doing a bath and every bath situation is unique so we have to cost these jobs individually.

There are quite a few factors we take into consideration when giving a quote.

Some of these are:

  • What is the design of the bath? For example is it a classic cast iron victorian roll top bath or an acrylic rectangular panelled in bath.
  • Has it ever been worked on before and does it need special preparation because of this?
  • What kind of things are wrong with it that need resolved in the preparation – such as dripping tap erosion, chips out of the surface etc.
  • How far from one of our technicians is the job located?

Once we have gotten the data above and other similar questions we then give you a free quote based on that.

Does bath resurfacing and re enamelling work?

Yes, we have been successfully restoring baths since 1985 and have hand written letters of appreciation and recommendation going right back to those early years. We don’t have unhappy customers and if someone has a complaint we just go back and do whatever is necessary to resolve the issue. It is often these such customers who recommend us since they have the confidence that we will look after whom ever they recommend to us. I stated the business not with the objective of making money – although you have to do this – but with the purpose of delivering a high quality service to customers. So that is the ethos of the business to this day. give you the best finish possible. To this end we use the best materials for the job and stay on site as long as necessary to get the job done to the best of our ability. An old fashioned attitude? Well some of us here are over 60 and have ideals!

Should I replace the bath or get it re-enamelled?

We have found that many of our customers didn’t want to go through the headache of removing the old bath. In the process of removing the bath you could damage the tiles, scratch the painted walls. A bath or shower tray is quite firmly placed and isn’t the easiest to remove without causing trouble to the rest of the room. You also don’t have to hire a plumber to put take out the old bath and put in the new bath. As we know when you start a job like this it can easily end up in an expensive complete bathroom refurb. If the surface of the bath is what is wrong and other aspects of the bathroom are acceptable it makes sense to handle that one thing, in one day, with one person. Easy. Economical. Saves the planets resources. Furthermore we have noticed a sharp decline in the build quantity of baths and shower tray over the last five years so it is most likely that what you already have in you bathroom has better integral quality that which you would get today.

Is the bath resurfaced at your home?

Yes, tub resurfacing is carried in your home in the position it is in. There is no need to remove the taps or unplumb it. We cover with dust sheets the floor, sink, toilet and all surfaces in the bathroom are masked so everything is protected. No mess. There is however quite a strong smell like nail varnish remover for a couple of hours but we have an extraction system to vent this out.

How long does the new enamel surface last?

From our experience the surface life is about 10 years or longer. The main thing that damages enamel baths is modern acidic cleaners but our surface is resistant to them so that will not happen again however our surface can still be affected by the things that affect any bath. In this respect it does depend on how it gets used, how at risk it is of things falling and hitting it, whether it retains puddles and doesn’t drain fully and the general wear and tear that any bath will get.

We give you a document that tells you how to clean it and get the best life out of it and this includes a guarantee that covers system failure but some things – like those mentioned above are excluded because they happen to all baths and are outwith our control.

With respect to the things mentioned above there are a few features that can shorten the life any bath and these apply to our surface also. For example loose heavy shower beads that do not have a retainer can be dropped and can chip a bath, metal plugs can be dropped or whipped around to chip a bath, heavy toys can be flung in. We repair new and old baths everyday that get damaged this way and our surface is not different. Sometime a property or a floor can sag and the bath fails to fully drain as it no longer has a run to the waste. Water containing cleaning solutions that sits permanently the surface as a puddle will damage it eventually and our surface is no different. Careless tenants can damage baths in various ways and our surface is not different.

We are very willing to provide after care service but if we can see that the problem is not of our causing we charge a nominal fee to put right.

To achieve a long surface life it is necessary to pay particular attention to the effectiveness of the adhesion system. This is basically the sticking of our new surface to the original enamel. This involves using advanced materials that we have specially developed over the last 35 years and these go over the old surface before the new white enamel is applied. The backbone of our continued success lies with our proven successful technology we created.

What is the quality of the new enamel coating?

It has taken years of fine-tuning but we think we have got this enamel just right for your bath. It has got to look really good but also be highly durable and easy to clean.

We apply it as thickly as possible, 3 to 4 coats. This tends to improve its durability by protecting the underlying bonding material.

We have tested this system against many others designed for the same purpose and have tweaked it to out-perform all others tested. Our expertise in this area and the recognition that this is the most workable system on the market has led us to become a supplier to many other bath re enamelling companies across the UK

What we try to do is provide the best possible job for you. This does not mean that we will be the cheapest bath resurfacing company. But we do the job properly!

Embodied in this concept of a workable standard is the principle that enough is put into the job to reach this standard and our work is priced up to this standard rather than down to a price that undercuts a competitor and keeps us in business. My cheeky response to the haggler is, “What part of the procedure would you like me to leave out?”

Why choose our company?

Len is 67 and I am 63 so we are a bit old school here – we don’t do slick modern marketing where we find out what our potential customers want to hear and say that back to them but then fail to deliver. We tell people the truth and if we don’t think your unit is worth repairing we tell you.

We have been doing this work every week since 1985 so we have as much experience as could be reasonably wanted but it’s the purpose that really matters – the purpose to get a job as close to perfection as possible and a desire to please and delight customers with the result that makes the difference. To this end we don’t economise on the essential materials that will remain on your bath for years to come. So it is this blend of qualities and features that we have – and want you to have which I think makes the difference. Add to this the fact that we get a lot of good feedback on being helpful, being in good communication, pleasant to deal with and reliable. Why not call us and have chat or check out our great reviews.

We have over 155 5 Star Google Reviews – probably a lot more by the time you read this.

We spoke to Len on several occasions and found him to be a genuine, well informed and trustworthy ambassador for Diamond Gleam. This was a leap in the dark for us and he was very reassuring and knowledgeable about the business. Simon the technician did a brilliant job resurfacing our metal bath and recessed soap dish. He laboured for several hours in preparing the surface before starting the process. We are truly delighted with the outcome. It has been worth every penny and we would recommend anyone to trust the workmanship and integrity of this business.
